Engine

The heart of this build is a powerful S&S Hooligan 1250cc engine upgrade, paired with Andrew’s N4 Cams, S&S lifters, and adjustable push rods. To maximize performance, the heads were hand-ported and matched, and the engine breathes through a Mikuni HSR 42 carburetor, finely tuned on the dyno. Roland Sands covers and a Fast Eddy float bowl drain provide functional upgrades and custom flair. This combination results in a truly powerful and responsive machine, perfectly suited for both cruising and aggressive riding.

Exhaust and Intake

A Bassani RR3 exhaust system was selected to deliver that throaty rumble while optimizing exhaust flow, helping the engine breathe better. Coupled with an S&S Stealth intake with a rain cover, the system not only boosts performance but also provides the Harley Sportster with a clean, aggressive look.

Drivetrain

To handle the added power, the bike features a 530 chain conversion with Superlite steel sprockets in a 23/54 setup, ensuring durability and better power transfer. The drivetrain is topped off with a gold EK X-ring chain, combining strength and style.

Suspension

One of the most notable upgrades on this build is the Nowaskey Extreme Performance 14” remote reservoir shockswith 130lb springs, making this Sportster’s suspension stand out among other Harley Davidson Sportster parts. Paired with Legend drop-in cartridges in the front forks, which are tuned for both fat and aggressive riding styles, this setup ensures optimal handling on the road.

The front suspension also features Pro One gold DLC fork tubes and a fork brace, adding strength and stability during high-performance riding. Tony’s expertise as a Nowaskey Suspension installer shines through with these choices, providing James Walker with superior ride quality and adjustability.

Brakes

The braking system was fully upgraded, with a dual disk conversion featuring Brembo Bagger front calipers and a Brembo 19RSC front master cylinder for precise braking control. The system is completed with Galfer solid mount wave rear rotors, Galfer Cubiq 11.5” front rotors, EBC HH pads, and stainless braided brake lines for improved performance and stopping power. This braking setup delivers the confidence required for aggressive riding while maintaining excellent control.

Controls and Customization

To complement the suspension and braking upgrades, the controls on this Harley Sportster were heavily customized. Tony deleted the hand controls, opting for a minimalist setup with Pro One gold pegs, a Pro One gold shift peg, and a Performance Machine clutch lever. The rider interface is enhanced with Biltwell mid-bend bars custom-welded to cover the plug holes, mounted on Boosted Brad/DMR risers and a gauge relocation for a clean, streamlined look.

A Saddleman Stepup seat ensures rider comfort, while custom shaved and drilled factory rear brake pedals add a unique touch to the bike's aesthetic. Every detail was meticulously planned to give James Walker a bike that is both functional and visually stunning.

Electrical and Lighting

The electrical system on this build was completely overhauled with a custom wiring harness routed through the frame, along with a relocated ignition and coil. The bike features Tons white 8mm plug wires, a custom hidden mini momentary push-button starter, and a Fly Eye LED headlight for modern, bright visibility. LED taillights and a hand signal conversion complete the electrical upgrades, offering a cleaner look and improved safety.

Wheels and Tires

The bike rolls on Harley 13-spoke mags wrapped in Dunlop D401 wide white-wall tires, with Metzeler 888 tires coming soon to further enhance handling and performance. These classic wheels, paired with modern rubber, give the bike a balanced mix of old-school style and contemporary performance.

Miscellaneous Custom Details

This build showcases hand-polished stainless ARP hardware, undercoated fenders, and a Joker Machine headlight mount. Biltwell Alumicore grips, a radiused license plate frame, and a Boosted Brad/DMR gas cap add additional custom touches that reflect Tony’s attention to detail.

The bike also features a 1.375” tank lift, giving it a more aggressive stance, while the custom paint, gold and silver leaf detailing, and powder coating by Kurt Peterson of Glenwood, MN, complete the bike’s unique look.

Built for Performance and Style

This 2005 Harley Davidson XL1200C build, with its combination of performance upgrades and custom Harley Davidson Sportster parts, is a testament to Tony’s skill at Forever Two Wheels. The use of Nowaskey suspensioncomponents, combined with the best Harley Sportster shocks and braking systems, ensures that this bike doesn’t just look great – it performs at the highest level.

With future upgrades planned, including an aluminum swing arm, a radial rear caliper, and a custom seat skin, this Harley Davidson Sportster is a build that will continue to evolve, pushing the limits of both performance and style.

We want to give a special thanks to Tony for all he does for the Nowaskey Team. He is a stand out mechanic at all the rallies that Nowaskey attends.
